Connecting with the Ancient Wound

The following are processes and modalities often used in bodywork, and they seem to have a particular connection to Chiron and the ancient wound:

Guided journeying – This is a process I have experienced in several situations such as classes and workshops. There is someone who is in the role of "guide" (a Chiron keyword) who generally uses words to lead the participants on an inner "journey" using metaphor, visualization and suggestion. The journey often involves going to a safe "place", perhaps meeting a guide, an animal or some other totem or symbol, and sometimes receiving a "gift". Guided journeying can be part of the process of connecting with the ancient wound and give us some insight into our own psyches, allowing us to be open to the healing process.

Emotional release – Another process, sometimes anticipated as a result of an acupressure or energy work session. The practitioner may use suggestion or even guided imagery, but the process is usually less directed. An emotional release may or may not happen, or may be forthcoming after several sessions. It should be discussed beforehand whether the recipient desires this type of experience, or if it happens spontaneously, it can be discussed as to how to proceed, or whether to continue with the session. Sometimes just being present is all that is needed. Certainly a sense of providing support and safety is important. Sometimes even someone receiving a Swedish massage may begin to cry on the table. These experiences relate to how our bodies hold all our experiences, even on a cellular level. We carry the scars of our own ancient wounds, and touch can release the energy stored up in our bodies – sometimes facilitating a release of muscular tightness or structural patterns, or sometimes resulting in a rush of heat and emotion. Emotional energy is just that – energy. It is not something to fear. It is everywhere, and often letting it pass through us is all that is necessary.

Chakra balancing – A modality of energy work where, using an awarenss of the seven energy centers of the body, we can achieve greater balance for the recipient on many levels. It can be subtle or profound, and often surprising. The method can be doing simple Jin Shin acupressure holds, or even just using the hands above the body, contacting the person's energy field. This is done with a focus on the chakra points mostly along the Conception Vessel. In my own work, I have found that the client does not need to believe in anything in particular, or even to be aware that I am working with the chakras for there to be a beneficial effect. I often do some chakra balancing to end a session. After the session they usually remark that they were aware of something different and more subtle happening, and occasionally are quite amazed at the effect. I often combine the use of Reiki energy and intuitive acupressure when clearing and balancing the chakras. Many levels of the ancient wound may be contacted through these energy vortices. It is important for the practitioner to remain as clear a channel as possible.

Intuitive acupressure – This is the form of acupressure I use the most in my work. Having a knowledge of the body's meridians and many acupressure points, I am usually able to incorporate some intuitive work on my massage clients. Most have a sense that I am contacting something more subtle, and of course using pause in a massage helps integrate strokes and gives the recipient a chance to feel and experience the benefits of touch. My intuition has always been strong, and perhaps now, during my Chiron return, I am particularly able to make contact with the "wounds" in a person's body and energy field and to help facilitate the healing process. I always trust my intuition.

Connecting with the ancient wound may feel frightening to some people, unnecessary to some, and even repulsive to others. Why make contact with something that hurts? Perhaps this question is at the heart of all bodywork and healing. Perhaps it is a human need to ferret out what is wrong and fix it. Perhaps it is just nature's way of achieving balance in the universe. In order for any healing to take place we must first acknowledge the existence of the wound. Making contact with the ancient wound within ourselves and connecting with the wound in others is the first step on the path of healing... The Chiron archetype within us can light the way.
